What is the difference between a bridal shower gift and a wedding present?

By Kristie
My friend is getting married soon, and today I just got an invite to her bridal shower. It’s an afternoon event in a park. (so nothing wild)

The invite says they are registered at Target and a local bridal shop (unfortunately I’m out of state till the event).

But do use the same registry for both? Because it was like all household items on the registry…

So is there a difference between the gift for the and the wedding present, or should I just buy things for both off the one registry?

Anyone know where I can find the Givenchy Bridal Jewelry Collection online?

By Jen
I saw a particular necklace in Macy’s and Herberger’s, but it retails for $150. I want to find somewhere cheaper. I have the UPC, which is 0097754343262. It is a 16 inch cubic zirconia necklace. I would love to wear it for my wedding, which is in a month.

Does anyone know where to find the Givenchy jewelry collection online so I can get more details about it, or know somewhere online that would sell that?

FYI: Googled, checked Amazon and Ebay already. Givenchy doesn’t seem to have jewelry on their main website either.

Themed Wedding Shoes

By Jane Simpson

Tradition tells us that wedding shoes should be white, feminine, and simply beautiful. But times are changing, and with that, the trends on shoes. A bride’s wedding shoes are not limited to stilettos, mules, pumps, and kitten heels in ivory and satin. Today, the added flexibility of themed weddings allows to express themselves with the footwear of their choice.

The fairy tale theme is probably the most popular for brides who want to be different but remain on the safe side. Since most brides are treated like royalties on their wedding days, the fairy tale theme is highly appropriate. Fairy tale brides can play with their dress and shoes more than the classic, traditional bride. Common choices of fairy tale brides include ball gowns and princess dresses with matching tiaras. Wedding shoes are, by far, trickier. Stilettos are not appropriate since they look too modern for princesses, and ditto with sandals. A shoe suggestion for this theme would be dainty lace-up boots in a complementary color to the . These will look fabulous with full skirts and sleeved dresses.

Outdoor garden weddings are also popular. Gardens with summer themes allow for dresses with airy fabrics and materials. To complement the “airiness” of the bridal dress, shoes should be airy and lightweight like sandals. As too pointy heels can sink in the ground, flat or platform sandals are best. Jeweled slippers with beads and embellishments are also good choices. This way, the bride does not have to worry about sinking or balancing in uneven grounds. Wedding shoes for outdoor wedding should be comfortable and relaxed to complement the relaxed and summery setting.

More adventurous brides prefer beach weddings. Beaches are usually chosen as venues if there are sentimental moments between the couple that happened in the beach like the first kiss or engagement. These are moments of surprise and the whole bridal ensemble should echo the excitement of those moments. Since the usual dresses for beach weddings show a lot of skin (think tube, haltered, short dresses), the wedding shoes should follow. Strapped heels are out because of the sand and this makes for an opportunity to use funky flip-flops and flat thong sandals. Embellished flip-flops and thong sandals with sparkly rhinestone details complement the beach vibe.

Recently, travel-themed and ethnic weddings are getting popular with jetsetter couples. Popular inspirations are Japanese, Arabian, and African cultures. Wedding dresses and the decors of the venue evoke images from the theme. A geisha-inspired dress merits wooden platforms as wedding shoes as much as a Princess Jasmine-inspired outfit matches satin slippers.

The gradual flexibility of wedding traditions allows for more personal and intimate weddings. There is no reason why brides should restrain their individual styles. Wedding shoes provide opportunities for little surprises and brides are welcome to take them. A wedding is, first and foremost, the bride’s day. She can proclaim her Keds as her wedding shoes and no one is allowed to object.

Costa Rica Romantic Honeymoon – Truly Above and Beyond

By Lisa Khajavi

When I hear the word ‘honeymoon’ I remember back to those blissful post-wedding days with my husband. Our wedding was amazing, and I tried to savor every second of the whole wonderful event with dear family and friends. I will never forget the amazing mix of ages and generations all smiling , embracing, and dancing to our reggae band’s version of Bob Marley’s ‘Stir It Up’. My Grandparents were priceless dancing together. However, it was especially glorious when the endless list of wedding details disappeared and the honeymoon phase eased in. The roller bladder who lost control and sent the gorgeous huge arrangements of flowers hurling, breaking one of the ceramic urns not too long before the ceremony, became like a distant, already funny memory. The rest of the world faded into the background and it was just me and my honey, and of course the moon if I had asked for it! I can’t think of a destination more spectacular for a honeymoon than Costa Rica. Costa Rica is so often included in top lists for romantic honeymoon destinations. However, because of the intimate size and nature of the country and its , you will never feel like just cow in a herd of many. Weddings and honeymoons are big business, and after the garish expo experience, I came away just wanting something personal, something ‘us’. You will have that ability in Costa Rica, whatever t hat means to you. The variety of hotels, spas, and activities are amazing. These are all framed with natural beauty and scenery that will take your breath away.

Like other vacations you will want to decide which destinations and activities best represent what you are looking to experience. From the remote natural rain forest experience to the seaside resort, you will have options and amenities to indulge in all your honeymoon wishes. The honeymoon destinations we recommend have wonderful varieties of activities, spa treatments perfectly suited for making your trip as special as possible. One of the nicest, balanced combination’s is the Rain Forest and Beach Rendezvous experience. The Arenal area will meet and exceed any longings you might have had to go to Hawaii instead. Gracious Costa Rican hospitality will complement the views, gardens and spa treatments at Arenal Nayara. The Sunset Tours lava hike is amazing: you will see glorious lava flow, sip cocktails at sunset, go for the thermal hot springs experience and then on to dinner. The Sky Trek is exhilarating and one of the best tours in Costa Rica for canopy and suspension bridges. The next destination, Tango Mar at the beach is great, just the spot to soak in the sun and sand in style. The Tortuga Island tour is a must. Then off to La Paz, so romantic!

For a very romantic secluded beach experience you will love Punta Islita and Harmony Hotel in Nicoya, Nosara beach. The seaside romantic candlelight dinner for 2 at Punta Islita feels as though you are the only ones in the world taking in the sounds of the lapping waves and following the dazzling moonlight dancing on the water. The Harmony is wonderful for couples spa treatments and yoga, swimming, and delicious healthy cuisine. The chocolate wrap is too delicious! The treatments are made by hand using local, healthy ingredients that are organic whenever possible. The linens used to drape clients are silky organic bamboo to die for. As I am sharing these details, I realize that this all is through my eyes and the best thing is to shape your Costa Rica honeymoon through YOUR eyes! Our travel designers are caring and will listen to all of your specific wishes and help you design the best honeymoon for just you. The custom possibilities are endless. Constantly boutique experiences are popping up here for various interests such as tennis, cooking or you name it. The ability to be here, in country, to insure all details go smoothly is also key. Our job is not complete until you are on your way back home to begin your married life together! After all the mountains of details you manage to get married, even with an exceptional wedding coordinator, your honeymoon should feel seamless so the focus can be on each other. We can help you do this, as a matter-of-fact we live for it…..I am spilling the beans that all of our travel designers and customer service reps are hopeless romantics. I have been in sales for more than twenty years and am proud to say that I have never seen a staff more excited about or driven by customer reviews than this group. They are like proud parents sharing their success stories, it’s ridiculous. I love what I do, wouldn’t trade it!

What do you think of a bridal gown rental shop?

By Proud Momma
With planning a wedding and looking at dresses, I was wondering if a rental shop would be a good idea. I always hear say that guys are lucky becuz they can rent a tux, but girls have to BUY their dresses.

How much would you be willing to rent a gown for?

Around here, just getting a wedding gown cleaned would cost around $150.00 Alterations might cost another $150. If that’s the case, a gown rental would have to cover that and THEN some, wouldn’t it? So that would defeat the purpose.

Bridesmiad dresses might be a bit better. I think they cost the same as any other dress for cleaning. Maybe $10- $20

Girls, would you rent a gown? If so, how much would you pay to rent vs. buy?
I am not looking for one for myslef. I did get my gown for my wedding… it was just something that I was curious about. I just wondered how many women would actually rent it. The groom rents his tux, usually. Guys are soooo unsentimental! LOL

Selecting Bridesmaid Jewelry Sets For Your Bridal Party

By Denise Sanger

The best thing about giving your bridal party jewelry sets as bridesmaids’ gifts for the wedding is that it not only looks fantastic the day of your wedding, but it can be worn again. If you choose the jewelry with your bridal party in mind, you are sure to select a gift the bridesmaids will appreciate.

Let’s look at the many options available today for bridal jewelry starting with crystal jewelry sets. Crystals come in a rainbow of colors. Selecting a crystal bridal jewelry set allows you to match the jewelry to your wedding scheme color. For example, are your colors chocolate brown and pink and your is wearing chocolate brown? A pale pink crystal jewelry set will beautifully accent the chocolate brown bridesmaid dress but is also now considered a neutral color and can be worn with everyday outfits.

Keep in mind that if you do select a color crystal jewelry set, you don’t have to match your wedding color. Selecting a lovely ivory or champagne necklace set is a lovely accent color that will bring a shimmer to the bridal party while allowing the wedding color to stand out fully in the .

If you are getting married in the spring or summer, you can choose lighter colors such as sky blue, lavender, or mint green. Fall and winter months lend a brilliant backdrop to burgundy, chocolate, or black bridesmaid jewelry sets.

Choosing a different necklace set for each of your bridesmaids is also another fantastic option. You are technically giving each one the same gift however you are tailoring the design to their particular personality. Everyone always has a friend that’s larger than life. She loves to have fun and is brilliantly boisterous. The perfect necklace set for her would be a rhinestone jewelry set that’s big and bold. Think lots of sparkle to match her sparkly personality.

Then for the bridesmaid that’s more reserved and quiet – think classic. Staying with the rhinestone necklace sets, a double tier rhinestone choker with matching earrings that from a distance looks like a necklace of diamonds. This allows you to capture her particular personality while keeping the jewelry in the same family as the rest of the bridesmaids.

If you really want your bridesmaids to wear the same necklace set, choose a pattern or design that will look equally stunning on each of them. Perfect examples would be classic, art deco or Victorian inspired designs.

Pearls are as perfect for the bridesmaids and they are for the bride. Classic pearl strand necklace and earrings sets are often available in several colors but the most common are white or ivory. Which color you choose would depend on the color of the dress. White looks fantastic with primary colors such as red, blue, purple, green and of course, white. Ivory is very complimentary with champagne, ivory, brown, orange, and yellow. Either white or ivory may be worn with black.

Choosing a bridal jewelry set while keeping each bridesmaid’s personality in mind ensures the perfect gift for your important girls sure to be worn at many happy events in the future.

Plus Size Clothing – More Coming To Stores

By Andrea Dilea

It seems like everywhere you look, whether on tv, magazines, or the internet, the women portrayed are very thin. But these models aren’t the norm. Instead of trying to fight nature, you should embrace your gorgeous and voluptuous figure! In actuality, the average size today for women is 14, although the market is behind in catering to this larger size range.

Larger women who are interested in fashion are often flustered by boutique clothing shops where racks often end at size 12. Plus size clothing shops are gaining in popularity. They make it easy for curvy women to find clothes that both look great and are comfortable. Many stores have similar outfits, if not the very same ones, that are carried in regular stores. In addition, they often have original designs that are exclusive to plus-size shops.

Department stores often have a section for larger women as well. Look for signs marked “plus size” to find the plus size clothing department. Often the clothes are very similar to or even the same as those in the regular women’s department. Be aware that even though you may find an outfit that’s exactly the same as one available in smaller sizes, larger sizes often cost a little more. However, as with any other clothing department, plus size clothing often goes on sale.

A few extra pounds are often a large source of needless stress for . Instead of letting worry that they won’t be able to fit into their dream gown cause them to starve and take other drastic measures, it would be better to visit the store and find dresses that actually fit. Plus size dresses are available at most stores. You will be able to find something that fits well and looks great, no matter if you’re the bride, bridesmaid, or the .

Lingerie also comes in larger sizes which means no woman needs to hide her figure at bedtime. These pieces can typically be found along with all other lingerie. Even though it can be incredibly uncomfortable to try on pieces it is essential that you do. Finding the right piece can transform your figure. Take a deep breath, grab your favorite teddy and head to the fitting room. Plus size lingerie can and will make you look fabulous!

Even though it can be discouraging sometimes, don’t give up when it comes to finding plus size clothing that fits you and your style. Stores are increasingly focusing on the plus size range and many now offer entire fashion lines just for this group.
